The University of Oxford, ranked fifth in the world, is the best university in Europe in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings published in early June, while Harvard University, Stanford University and MIT in the United States appear as the three highest-ranked universities.

QS, one of the world’s most reputable company specialising in the analysing and ranking of higher education institutions, released its latest ranking, QS World University Ranking 2021, on 10 June, which ranks more than a thousand higher education institutions of 93 countries. London-based QS has compiled ranking lists of higher education institutions worldwide since 2004. The six QS ranking indicators are faculty/student ratio (20%), international faculty ratio/international student ratio (5% each), employer reputation (10%), citations per faculty (20%) and academic reputation (40%).

In the latest ranking, ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology), coming sixth in the world ranking, is the best university in continental Europe, followed by the Technical University of Munich ranked 50th in the world, Lomonosov Moscow State University ranked 74th in the world and the University of Copenhagen ranked 76th in the world.

The best university in Central Europe is the University of Vienna, ranked 150th in the world, in the latest QS World University Rankings 2021. The university located in Vienna, Austria was founded by Duke Rudolph IV in 1365. It is the oldest university in the German-speaking world and one of the largest in Central Europe. With 178 degree programmes, 40 university continuing education and training programmes and about 45,000 active students, the University of Vienna is the largest and most diverse educational institution in Austria.
